I'll
well %uh
I'll How To: Intro to Screen Printing - Part 1 Materials & Preparation !!! morning my name's marcia
and I'm here at the Victoria store up
arts months and today we are going to do
demonstration up screen printing
it's a simple three color print to paper stencils one he's amassed
stenciled is a number very very basic tools and there's a number specific
tools as well
custom brochure printing the basic ones are things like asking
double sided tape got a ruler here and cutting mat
which is going to be used for cutting stencils and
consensus we need to have a night this is a design night and it's very
important when using a knife like this
not only to be safe but also to have extra planes
sharp knife is your best friend when thanks spring
so there's many kinds of things that you can use these two can be used for text
and paper
this one textile alone the ink that i'm gonna be using today is
a medium it's a golden silk screen medium and the nice thing about it
is that you don't have to have a full jar Beach color
you could just have a jar medium and then use your cur look paints
I'm to mix in with it when you're testing your print you one
newsprint it's also good for cleaning your screen and this is just
bond photocopy paper protest prints
and the stock that will be finishing the print on news
today music cards this is the Strathmore stamping
hard arm my chosen debit cards today because they have the smoothest
finish which is uses Mar screen printing I'm awesome you
prints on stonehenge paper which is a very good quality paper printing
in class gonna be sport these are great they're here
Shin and the clamp and so what you do with that
hatcher screen to and your screen will stay stationary
for each successive trip the screen is made up
very tightly stretched polyester mash polyester nylon
mash stretched across a wooden frame
and that's what you would hear the stencil to used really tight
to keep om all the the multiple images
the same each time and this is the squeegee this is the part that pushes
the pic
through the match like apt things to prepare the screen
and this his to tape it up mostly this is for clinton
cleanliness because we will have to clean Inc of it
at some point and when we want to switch codes cultivate
so just AP the group in the back
one thing to remember when you doing this it heating up some %uh the image
area so
that needs to be in your plan yeah okay
and now I'm gonna take the inside screen probably even more important than
keeping the back
because there's a gap here there's a spring to this match
and that's great time but there's a gap there
Inc can get underneath there and if it gets underneath their
when you wash it off but you don't see what's underneath the next time you
print that Inc
mode and and contaminate year your next caller
and very important the same thing with the screen
in this the the squeegee there's a gap between the
the blade the rotor blade and the wood
and Inc can get up in there so you want to persuade you for the same reason to
keep it clean because when we finish printing
sounds good Inc all over we want to be able to clean off easily musical
thumbnail sketches
to keep things organized a street in terms of what I need to cut out so
it helps me keep my mind clear clear about what part we need to cut again
on cutting my first and so on. I'm starting out with a photocopy
up an image that I have I'm gonna cut out the filling up the pie
and I'm gonna cut along the black line rate in the center of the black line
there's an important bit here which means I need to not cut back piece right
there
or else the stencil of our hard
so that part we think it's gonna go through
perking up pretty good so far me
third one is going to be
it's a not gonna be a paper stencil but it's basically the whole lot the whole
drying
the pie that's going to be with the Huskies stencil something important for
you to know is that
the pie is facing that way but
this Denso on this yellow is gonna be facing the other way
and that's okay because when we attach the stairs into the screen
is gonna be facing that way again and the kinda
transfer I'm gonna show you is really cool it's called a blender marker
transfer
im and take this Tupac blender marker which is a solid base markers just a
clear marker
there's no on nocolors gonna come out a bit and I'm gonna rub it on the paper
and it will
allow the for a copy Inc to land
on the yellow and then burnish in a bit this is a bone folder I'm just gonna
rubbed when you're checking you really want to be careful not to move it out a
place in case you have to go back down again
so great on the head to the black because I want I love the black per
to be printed I'll and its
I'm not cutting through the centre because it's not gonna this is gonna
overlap
I love the other colored images to make more sense when we see it
the next day just to peel away the Blackbird so the transfer sheet is
clear adhesive and the adhesive is not as sticky as the yellow it he said
gently gently rub two-part
so the Rio arm beauty of this mask eases that
you can move hurt substances that are
that are independent and they will stay in place where they belong
such as the scent the the filling up the pie okay
so now sticky side up we're taking the screen
we're gonna put it face-down so this is the way
it would be facing you when you're printing
so you can see that reversal now the now the pies facing the right way
and I want it kinda did Center in in this
the screen area not I'm not measuring it I'm I'm eyeballing it but it should be
dead center
mainly that's for printing because this this is the sort of the sweet spot for
printing
in terms of the tension up the match that you get your best
printed
gonna take a boat the background cuz
equal go through any open parts of the match so you want to control those open
parts
the open part here is your image you don't want the to go through these open
parts I'm gonna
tape I'll
well
then *** ***
